Thoughts on challenging your boss:

1) Have a coherent plan on what you’re going to say.

2) Bring them solutions, not just problems

4) If you’re holding a contrary opinion, be prepared to defend it vigorously, but courteously.

5) Understand the constraints your boss operates under
6) Tone down the confrontation, play up the collaboration
7) Be prepared to accept no as a answer
8) “Winner take all” is only seen in the movies, negotiate in good faith
