Rock-It at Work: Get a Personal Brand Card

business card

This is part of a series of posts featuring members of the Brazen Careerist team. Brazen staff were asked to provide a little information about themselves and one piece of career advice based on what has helped them most in their careers so far.

Name: Dustin Canter

Age: 26

So what do you do at Brazen?

I’m the director of business development. My job is to create business with global 1000 companies.

What did you do before Brazen?

I started a restaurant (Howbowda Bagel) and moving & storage business (My College Storage).

Tell us something unique about you.

I can eat six saltine crackers in 20 seconds.

What is one thing that has helped you advance in your career?

Creating a personal brand card. I was at a transitional point. I’d just moved to a new city and was looking for good opportunities. So I created a business card with my name, email, phone number and personal website. I also included four words on the card that describe what I want other people to know about who I am, what I am looking for and why they can turn to me for advice or questions in a particular field. My card says:

Dustin Canter
Adrenaline Junkie, Entrepreneur, Health Nut, Philanthropist

If you’re in a transition or even if you aren’t, get a card and brand yourself in a unique and interesting way. It’s a conversation starter and will prompt people who might want to work with you, to ask questions.

I totally agree! Creating a personal business card is one of the easiest ways to help people remember you. Check out http://www.brandkit.co for examples of some personal logos, I help students and young pros create their own brand for resumes, cover letters and business cards.
    Great tip!

Interesting so a card about me rather than one listing my buisness details. I might give that a go, could be a real bonus when you have more than one buisness.

I got personal business cards from moo.com, they are mini cards. Very affordable and customizable. Highly recommend!

This is especially helpful if you’re a self-employed individual that works in several different fields. Rather than a different card for each hat that you wear, you can have one creative, personalized card that a potential client will remember you by.

Have to be careful to differentiate yourself from the idiots who just hand out personal cards to look important though!
