All that has been expressed above in some way pertains to being an asset
to a Blog. The real task in being an asset is what you provide in the
overall growth, development and consistent continuous improvement not
just for the Blog, but those who you work with and provide a product or
service to. Seeing that the user is the greatest asset a blog can have
we need people who can provide the mentoring, development, and training
that would ensure we obtain and retain those individuals who will strive
and exemplify excellence and dedication to the success of any blog they
work for.

Great article! One way to take a gap year is to get paid to teach English abroad for 6-12 month. You can get trained in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and work in over 80 countries around the world. Take a look at International TEFL Academy http://www.InternationalTEFLAcademy.com as they train over 1,500 people a year and assist them to find paid jobs worldwide.

I read this at the right time. I took a gap "year" after working a couple writing jobs after college and I was terrified because of all the naysayers. Then I realized that they were just saying the things they did because as you said, they were either scared or they were mad they didn't do the same thing. My gap year turned into two and I found a job in my career while living abroad. Now I'm getting ready to come back to the states for grad school but am already thinking of where I'd like to move next. If I have kids, I'm definitely going to encourage them to take a gap year after high school -- it could lead to admission to a better university, more scholarship opportunities, and most importantly, figuring out what they want to do with their life BEFORE they're paying $10K per year to do that. Thanks for a great read.

I agree completely! In fact, take a gap year right after high school & give yourself a chance to find out who you are - then you can do it again later in life too. Each will offer vastly different experiences & growth.

You can do it, Tyler! Seriously. It's not easy -- it took us many months from when we first thought about it, made the decision to do it, and were ready to leave. But it's totally doable. :)

Great article! My thoughts exactly when I quit my job and in a culture like the one we live in here in the US...I'm taking the risk because it's worth it, and I'll go against the grain because it will bring me more in the future!
