Probably a good idea to minimize your worthless degree in Babylonian History and play up your coding skills and technical certifications at the top of the page. In a perfect world you could minimize it so much that it gets buried in 0.1-point font.

I couldn't agree more. There are very few cases in which it makes sense to list education first. It's a good idea for some scientific or technical positions, but even then I'd recommend just putting your degree after your name up top, like 'John Smith PhD.'

One of the reasons this happens is that education is a business and the big colleges need students to stay in business, so they sell them on the idea that "education" will get them a better job and life. Then you have all these people who have bought into this going out and applying for jobs...

As a small business owner, I can tell you I don't care what your education is as long as you can do the job. And oftentimes, "educated" people aren't nearly as good as people without a degree, because they take everything the school said at face value and think there is only way to do things.

Not to be too tough on college students... I went to college, so I certainly see the value. To me though, the value has little to do with how well you'll be able to do a job.
