If that's what you understood from my comment, my apologies. I apparently need to work on my communication skills. Let me just say that if you have a partner/family, it's selfish (and possibly destructive) to ignore their needs in pursuit of your professional ambitions. This is why work-life balance is important; at least for the people who look for you to provide more than a nice income, palatial estate (and all its trappings), and fancy cars.

So, if you're married or partnered with children and then find the career you love, you should abandon them and stake all your attention and time on your career? Or should we just simply avoid love and commitment of any sort, if we find a career we love?
What a joyless and barren life it would be without love, commitment and family, at least for me. There's the old cliché where no one lay on their deathbed, wishing they had spent more time at work on the career they loved.

When we enter into a committed relationship and have children we by default commit to giving them the time and attention THEY need from us. It's somewhat selfish to believe that we should be prioritizing their needs for our attention against our career ambitions. If you have a career that you "love" so much that you cannot fathom taking time away from the job for the benefit of your family, then your first mistake was getting involved with another individual in the first place. With that said, I think this author misses the mark on the purpose/need for life-work balance. Not only do we have "things" outside of work that demand our full attention, but there are also health factors that should also be considered. The author seems to ignore as much.

So here's the problem I see. You have a career you love, and you have a family you love as much. What do you do? Who takes priority? Careers that demand all your attention or spouses and children that won't wait for you to achieve your goals?
