Recruiting Radio with Nando and Charlene

Note from the editor:

We’ve got a fun, new multimedia feature here at Brazen!

Once a month, we’ll partner with Nando Rodriguez (a social media recruiter) and Charlene Narcelles (a talent recruiter) for a Recruiting Radio podcast. That means MORE advice to help you land your dream job.

Today’s the first installment, so we turn it over to Nando and Charlene!

If you’ve ever worked in a corporate environment, you know office politics are part of the job. Sometimes performing above and beyond in your role just doesn’t cut it. So why do some people get the promotion while you’re still making the same salary year over year?

If this sounds all too familiar, listen up because you don’t want to stay a non-factor.

In this podcast, we put our spin on “playing the office game,” using analogies related to an activity we all know and love — eating!

Highlights in this episode:

  • The role office politics play in an organization’s culture
  • Buddying up with the movers and shakers
  • How not to remain a non-factor at work
  • Branching out of your clique or comfort zone
  • Being that guy or gal everyone can rely on
  • Accepting the harsh realities of office politics

Awesome advice! Thank you so much! I think accepting the harsh realities is a great point and understanding your position and power from that reality is very powerful! Loved it, hope to hear more from them!

Really raising awareness to the nuances of office decorum in a way that’s palatable and a joy to listen in on. Great energy along with a wealth of knowledge and experience from both speakers! Looking forward to the next installment.

This certainly made me look at office politics in a different light. It’s so important to acknowledge that office politics are unavoidable, but not always a negative. You can only improve your work experience by making friends, networking genuinely, and understanding what avenues are available to you.

Office politics. Most people think this is brown nosing, but it’s not. The more the uppers know your name, the more room for you to advance and the more you enjoy your job. Oh, I always read the news so I have something to talk about TO EVERYONE. The was a very important conversation. Thanks guys.

After many years in various corporate settings I’ve realized there will be office politics no matter what type of position or environment your in. For me the best way to deal with the decision to engage in politics was determining what was a “safe” amount of discussion vs. “unsafe”. I follow my intuition which I finally listen to after all of these years. If I started to engage in an office politic situation that makes me feel uncomfortable then I move on. Especially if the situation is similar to a bad experience I’ve had in the past.
One last note. Always know the people you are engaging in office poltics with. You never know who your talking to!!!!

This was a great listen!!! And very true. It’s best to treat the office the way you do any relationship. Everyone is not your friend but everyone else is not always out to get you. It’s best to be diplomatic and smart about situations and remember that while someone may have a different and / or higher position than you it doesn’t mean that they aren’t a human being with human reactions and unique points of view. Just take it all with a grain of salt I say. Great job!!!
