Community Manager at Scoutmob
Scoutmob’s a startup that helps you experience your city by offering a heads up about city gems and local businesses. They’re expanding to cities across the country.
Based in New York City, this position requires 2-4 years of post-college experience and demonstrated success with consumer-facing social media, marketing, public relations and event planning.
Think you’d qualify? Read on. (And if you don’t, consider joining Scoutmob for a chance to win a PUBLIC bicycle.)
This community manager will spearhead all local marketing activities for the startup, including event planning and production, buzz-marketing execution, event sponsorships, and online community development and customer service through social media.
Scoutmob’s looking to hire an employee who knows and loves New York City, and someone who has or can develop relationships with media and bloggers.
To give you a sense of what it’s like to work for this company, we’ve asked Scoutmob a few questions:
Brazen: Tell us a company secret that no one else knows about!
Nicole Jayne, Scoutmob’s director of community: The first Scoutmob “office” was in co-founder Dave Payne’s dining room. As we grew through 2010, we expanded to his kitchen, his living room, his antechamber, until Dave and his fiancee finally moved out and let us take over the bedroom.
Conference calls were regularly conducted in his spacious walk-in closet. In the new space, we have a ball pit, ping pong table and Indo board; here’s a virtual tour.
More fun: Every day one industrious Scoutmob employee is awarded the Great Job Today plaque. The bar is incredibly high, and the thrill of winning is complimented with your picture on http://greatjobtoday.info.
Why would a GenY job seeker want to work for ScoutMob rather than somewhere else?
We feel a deep sense of purpose to serve our communities, some even say Scoutmob is a platform for passion. Whether it’s a local business owner, an artist or just someone doing something cool in your city, sharing their awesomesauce with the world is rewarding every day.
If you truly love living in your city, Scoutmob is the place for you. This is not a 9-5, this is a 24/7/365, a natural extension of your local-loving life. Oh, and we pay for our employees to get mustache tattoos.
Can you tell us something interesting about your founders or CEO?
Dave Payne is a huge foodie, while Michael Tavani would be fine just taking a pill for nourishment. Before there was Scoutmob, they had a business together setting up Wi-Fi hotspots at local cafes and shops. When that didn’t skyrocket to success, they took everything they learned about the needs of local business owners and created something better.
