How to Get a Killer Job on Network Roulette

Imagine a virtual space where you can meet real recruiters with real hiring power in real time. That’s what Brazen Careerist’s Virtual Recruiting Events on Network Roulette are all about and it’s making the job search a lot more practical than it’s ever been before.

Already companies like Amazon, URS and General Motors have used Network Roulette to find top talent. In the next week, LivingSocial will be hosting an event to find a rock-star Social Media Strategist and energetic individuals to join their Inside Sales Team. We have more great opportunities with great companies right around the corner.

You can do it at home in your pajamas, at a cafe while sipping a latte, or at your current job when the boss isn’t looking. But here’s the catch: You still have to look like rock-star talent while you’re doing it.

Here are some tips for finding killer job opportunities at one of our Virtual Recruiting Events.

Get to know the company. Just like any other job interview, you have to be prepared. Once you sign up for the recruiting event, get to know the company. Read the job description, see if they have a blog and do your due diligence.

Update your profile/Social Resume on Brazen. The recruiters will be checking you out and the first thing they’ll see is your profile on Brazen Careerist. Make sure that it is up to date with all your current information, highlighting your assets. If you have a LinkedIn profile, be sure it’s included.

Make a great first impression by filling out the providing/looking for section. When you’re connected with the recruiter on Network Roulette, the first thing they’ll see is what you’re looking for and what you’re providing, so tell them. Prepare it before the event and make sure it’s updated when you begin. This is where reading the job description comes into play. Remember, you want to stand out in their mind so highlight your strengths, but be specific to their needs.

Be in the right mindset. The same principles that apply to phone interviews apply here. Just because you are not going to an interview in person does not mean you should be distracted when you are attending the event. “Attend to your surroundings,” says Penelope Trunk regarding phone interviews. “If you have an interview scheduled, take precautions beforehand to get in a good spot physically.”

Practice. Practice. Practice. Don’t let the recruiting event be the first time you use Network Roulette. We have Community Karma chats every weekday so take the time to become familiar with Network Roulette. Get used to making the most of those 3 minutes. 180 seconds fly by fast, so practice until the recruiting event. Every second will count.

Be patient. Remember that there are more recruiters than candidates. If you are not connected in the first few minutes, that doesn’t mean you should bail on the event – you will be matched with a recruiter as soon as possible. You may be missing out on a great job opportunity if you bail!

Follow up. Be sure to ‘Become a Fan’ after your conversation and promptly follow up after the Network Roulette event is over. 3 minutes goes fast and you may not have time to take notes, which is exactly why you’ll have your complete chat history in your Networking Dashboard.
