Is it just us, or is summer rolling by WAY too fast? There’s been a lot of discussion on Brazen lately about how to find time to have fun without falling behind at work. Here are 4 tips to help you find more time to enjoy your summer.
Own your weekends.
“Sacrifice isn’t always admirable – sometimes it’s just plain stupid.” — Adam McFarland.
As a small business owner, Adam spent nearly 75 percent of his time working on the weekends. It wasn’t good.
Making a conscious effort to not work on your weekends is the first step towards having more fun. It will also have a positive impact on the work you do after the weekend is over.
“If anything, the balance leaves me less stressful and more productive when I’m working,” says Adam. “I’m more eager to work when I have a day or two away from it.”
Erin Lariviere agrees: “When it’s summer, the weekends are mine, not for work.”
Upgrade your entertainment toolkit.
“Summertime, summertime…and we’re coming up on a huge barbecue weekend!” — Shana Ross
It’s barbecue season and we can tell because of all of the chatter in our I Love To Cook network. Hosting cookouts for friends and family is a great way to enjoy the summer months, but it’s a lot of work!
Getting the charcoal lit is one of our pet peeves, so when we learned about FlameDisk we were eager to try one out. FlameDisk is an eco-friendly charcoal alternative that works on any grill and it’s ready to use instantly. Just place the disk in the bottom of your grill, peel the lid, light a match and start grilling!
The best part about using a FlameDisk is that it’s not messy. So you’ll spend less time dealing with a sooty mess and more time having fun with your guests.
Create a Summertime Bucket List.
“As much as it drives me crazy to plan to have fun I’ve found that creating a list of fun summer things that I want to do and scheduling them is the only way I feel like I really experienced summer.” – Jenn Jackson
Whether it’s at your office or back at home, making lists is still one of the best ways to organize what you want to do and make things happen. So what do you want to do before September rolls around? Grab a pen and a piece of paper. Start writing things down!
Joy Kennelly agrees: “If I don’t plan to have fun, then it doesn’t happen.”
Make work more fun.
The time that you spend at work can be fun, too! Summer is a dangerous season for burnout. Ask you boss if you can organize an event to boost morale.
“There are lots of funny noises in our office today since so many of our guys are watching the US-Algeria game … Has your company been watching the World Cup?” — Rebecca Thorman
What else? How are you making time for summer fun? If you aren’t making time, how do you plan on changing that?
