Every year 500,000 patients from all over the world visit the Mayo Clinic. The patients, their families, their friends, and the clinics 50,000 employees are part of the global Mayo Clinic community. In January, 2009, Lee Aase began identifying some of these people, and sharing their stories with the world on the Mayo Clinic’s blog, Sharing Mayo Clinic.
Between the stories of true courage and success, Lee discusses new trends in the healthcare business, and highlights news about the Clinic.
I recently read a post on the Mayo Blog about a man named Dr. Freeman. The post tells us about Dr. Freeman’s situation two years ago at another hospital. The Doctor’s told him that he didn’t have much time, and all they could do was make him comfortable.
But Dr. Freeman did not accept this as his fate. He travelled to the Mayo Clinic in hopes that they could perform a very risky surgery. They did, and he is alive today.
What is unique about this post is that it doesn’t highlight the amazing procedure that the Mayo Clinic successfully performed. Instead, it highlights all of the great experiences this man has had since his operation. It talks about his travels, and his move, and how he has come to truly appreciate his Second Life.
It doesn’t matter whether you have an interest in medicine, or you have personally been affected by Cancer. The Mayo Clinic stories are heartfelt and inspirational, and the author is a tremendous writer.
We’ll be featuring more “corporate blogs that get it” as we continue with this blog, if anyone knows of others, leave a comment or contact me directly.
